¡Palabras locales en España!

Hi dear travelers! When you start learning Spanish it can be confusing to hear some words that you were not taught in your school or course and it is because they are colloquial words that are used in everyday life in the Spanish-speaking place where you are traveling and that is why you may not know even its meaning.

In this link we share some local words in the case of Spain so that you understand and communicate like a native, or at least you can try!

English:

Curro = Work.

Mogollón = A lot.

Faena = A lot of work or activity.

Coche = Car (but in some Latin American countries it is used to call the stroller for walking the baby and in Spain this stroller they call car).

Carro = call the stroller for walking the baby (Spain).

Mola = Great, something that I really like.

Flipar = What has surprised or amazed you.

Tía = Although the generic meaning in Spanish defines Tía, as the family relationship of your mother's sister, in local language it is used to refer to a woman. Example: "Look at that "Tía" who is walking." The same applies to Uncle for mens.

Cabrearse = Get upset.

Piti = Cigarette.

Potar = throw up.

Capullo = To refer to a person who annoys.

Gilipollas = To refer to someone who does or says stupid things.

Cuando empiezas a aprender español puede resultar confuso escuchar algunas palabras que no te enseñaron en tu escuela o curso y es porque se trata de palabras coloquiales que se usan en la cotidianidad del lugar hispanohablante en el que estas de viaje y por eso tal vez no conozcas aún su significado. En este enlace compartimos algunas palabras locales en el caso de España para que te entiendas y te comuniques como un nativo, o al menos lo podrás intentar.

Curro = Trabajo.

Mogollón = Mucho.

Faena = Mucho trabajo o actividad.

Coche = Auto (pero en algunos países de Latinoamérica se usa para llamar al carro de pasear al bebé y al auto lo llaman carro)

Carro = coche de bebé (en España)

Mola = Genial, bueno, algo que gusta mucho.

Flipar = Que te ha sorprendido o maravillado.

Tía = Si bien el significado genérico en español define a Tía, como el parentesco familiar de hermana de tu madre, en lenguaje local se usa para referirse a una mujer. Ejemplo: " Mira esa tía que va caminando". Aplica igual para Tío.

Cabrearse = Molestarse o disgustarse.

Piti = Cigarrillo.

Potar = Vomitar.

Capullo = Para referirse a una persona que fastidia.

Gilipollas = Para referirse a alguien que hace o dice cosas tontas.
